Cruise Automated Vehicles (San Francisco)

AUTOMATING EDUCATION
WITH EMPATHY

BACKGROUND

Cruise Automated Vehicles is a self-driving car company with a mission to make their customers and employees feel safe on the roads and in the office. In the unlikely event something goes wrong on the road, Cruise maintains a call center full of team members ready to help.

Cruise recognized the importance of mental well-being for these team members who handle stressful situations. They approached us to produce the educational content used within their training software.

Working closely with Cruise Automation's executive team, we produced video content for an internal system aimed at educating Cruise employees about dealing with immediate reactions to challenging situations. This resource is designed to educate Cruise employees and managers about the differences between stress, distress, and eustress; and how they manifest in our own lives and the lives of those around us.

STRATEGY

REAL-TIME LEARNING

As part of their education, Cruise team members are tested via a series of choose-your-own-adventure style modules. As the actor in our video production demonstrates signs of stress, distress, or eustress, the team member may respond with one of three scripted prompts. The actor then replies according to the prompt selected, and the conversation continues until the team member reaches the end of the module.

Psychologist and world-renowned PTSD expert Dr. Michelle Lilly educates the Cruise team members about how to identify worrying signs in themselves, and in those around them, before the team member begins each module.
